Deaf Space Camp celebrates 30 years

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Almost 30 students from seven states and the District of Columbia are attending Deaf Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center this week. In the program, now in its 30th year at the Rocket Center, the students participate in Space Camp and Aviation Challenge missions with the assistance of special cameras and sign language interpreters. Since its inception, more than 2,000 students and staff have participated in Deaf Space Camp. The best times for media to observe the Space Camp program is Thursday, June 30, from 12:30 to 3 p.m., when the students will be participating in an Extended Duration Mission. The Aviation Challenge students have a Top Gun competition Thursday, June 30, beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Space Camp students graduate Friday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. The Aviation Challenge graduation is Friday, July 1, at 10 a.m., at the Aviation Challenge facility.
