HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The U.S. Space & Rocket Center opens its newest exhibit, “Summer Smart Play,” this Saturday, May 14. Children of all ages can experience the forces of energy and nature in this exhibit that features pieces the community will recognize from the recently closed Sci-Quest, Hands-On Science Center. The Rocket Center obtained the Sci-Quest displays in early April and has refurbished and reconfigured some of them for this exhibit.

“Summer Smart Play” is the debut for the Rocket Center’s new Magic Planet® interactive, spherical display of the Earth. Familiar exhibits from Sci-Quest include ones that demonstrate kinetic energy, the shaking of an earthquake, the movement of waves and how dunes form, among others.

A total of 19 Sci-Quest displays are included in “Summer Smart Play,” which offers a sneak peek at a brand-new and much expanded children’s science and engineering gallery set to open January 2018. “Summer Smart Play” is open through July 25, when it closes to make room for the world-premiere of “The Science of Archimedes,” an exhibition created by Artisans of Florence International.

The Rocket Center is offering the media a preview of “Summer Smart Play” Friday, May 13 at 10 a.m. Please enter through the administrative office entrance near the Pathfinder Shuttle Display.
