U.S. Space & Rocket releases statement on death of Dr. Dorothy Davidson

Released
05/12/2021

The U.S. Space & Rocket Center staff is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Dorothy Davidson, a longtime member of the Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission (ASSEC). Mrs. Davidson first joined the efforts to restore the National Historic Landmark Saturn V rocket in 2004, and she and her husband, Julian, made a significant contribution to build the Davidson Center for Space Exploration, which houses the Huntsville-designed rocket and landmark.

Over her more than two decades of service to the Rocket Center, Dr. Davidson served as chair of ASSEC, the commission that governs the Rocket Center, served as chair of the ASSEC Development Committee and on the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Education Foundation board of directors.

“This is not only a great loss of a friend and mentor to the Rocket Center but to so many in our community, said Brenda Carr, Executive Director of the Foundation. “She infused her spirit and enthusiasm in so many of us who had the great fortune to know and work with her. She and Julian made a lasting impact on this city and we are forever grateful.”

The Rocket Center will light the vertical Saturn V blue, the color of Davidson Technologies’ logo, in honor of Dr. Davidson’s legacy of support for the Rocket Center and her community.
