World War II veterans to watch “Dunkirk” today at U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s SpaceDome IMAX® Theater

Released
08/02/2017

HUNTSVILLE, AL – A group of World War II veterans will attend a special showing of the epic film “Dunkirk” today at 12:30 p.m., at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s SpaceDome IMAX® Theater. The Rocket Center arranged this special viewing for veterans from the Floyd E. Tut Fann Veterans Home in Huntsville, with the help of sponsorship from the Rolling Thunder, Alabama Chapter 2 veteran’s service organization and North Alabama Veterans and Fraternal Organizations.

Media is invited to attend or to interview the veterans after the movie, which runs two hours.

“Dunkirk” is the story of the Allied forces’ first foray into mainland Europe that ended in near catastrophe. British and French troops were trapped in the port town of Dunkirk on the English Channel with the German army quickly approaching and no way to escape. The quagmire had British commanders even considering a conditional surrender in 1940, just one year into the war, but both military and civilian ships were able to mount one of the most daring rescue operations in history, saving more than 330,000 stranded soldiers from the clutches of the German war machine.

Tickets and show times are available at rocketcenter.com/movies.
